Fact Check

Be an informed voter. Check. Your. Facts.

The Accusation: Candace is a member of antifa.

The Facts: Candace is anti-fascism and believes 100% that Black lives matter. Per Oxford Dictionary, the definition of “fascism” = “a form of far-right, authoritarian ultranationalism characterized by dictatorial power, forcible suppression of opposition and strong regimentation of society and of the economy which came to prominence in early 20th-century Europe.”

The Conclusion: Candace is NOT a member of the “antifa” group, if one even exists, but simply is against fascism. There is nothing wrong with this.

The Accusation: Antifa is responsible for closing businesses on S. Willow St.

The Facts: This is easily refutable. The two weren’t involved at all. Here is the information about when a teenage boy threatened a riot, involving tipping police cars.

The Conclusion: This is a blatant lie.

The Accusation: Candace wants to defund the police

The Facts: The words were entirely taken out of context. The “defunding model” does work, but it NEVER leaves the police high and dry. it simply means providing community resources so that the police don’t have to be social workers, mental health providers, and other roles that they were not trained for.

They even cited my op-ed, assuming people won’t read it. I would direct you to my op-ed so you can see what I actually said.

The Conclusion: I will stand on the side of “Black Lives Matter” unapologetically, and I stand my what my op-ed actually says, not what they misconstrued.

The Accusation: Candace will increase your taxes

The Facts: It’s actually GOP policies that increase your property taxes! They do this by:

  • Lowering business taxes, thereby reducing income

  • But we still have schools, roads, etc to pay for

  • The only way to pay for these, if you don’t have state money, is to raise property taxes

They are putting corporations ahead of people.

I don’t want to do this! At all! As a nurse, and a decent human being, I have always been one to advocate for people on a fixed income, particularly seniors, who have increased medical costs without additional income (I want to lower their medical costs, too, by the way). How are they supposed to keep paying for increased property taxes?

The Conclusion: Democratic policies are what actually lower property taxes. We want to increase state revenue by taxing businesses fairly, legalizing and taxing recreational marijuana (people get it from out of state anyway, so we might as well profit), and decreasing state spending where feasible. With that being the case, the state can support the cities and their spending costs, which decreases property taxes.

Do NOT believe their lies. Vote for the candidate who will tell you the truth.
